FinanceCarnival Corporation reported record first quarter revenues of USD 5.4 billion (USD 4.4 billion). The company improved its first quarter bottom line by nearly USD 500 million compared to 2023 and adjusted net loss was better than December guidance, with continued strength in demand driving ticket prices higher.

Ro-roStena Line has secured the ro-ro vessel BORE SONG to operate on its Dublin-Liverpool (Birkenhead) route. The ship will boost freight capacity on the route by 30%.
FerryTrasmed adds the ship CIUDAD DE SOLLER to its fleet on 25 March 2024. The ship will replace the CUIDAD DE ALCUDIA, which ends its service in the first days of April.

DFDS places order for yet another 100 Volvo electric trucks which will almost double the number of electric trucks in its fleet. The new electric trucks will be deployed in markets across Europe to meet the growing customer demand for e-mobility solutions, consolidating DFDS’s green ambitions and further cementing that DFDS has the largest fleet of heavy-duty electric trucks on the continent.
FinanceIn 2023, Color Line had revenues of NOK 6.3 billion (NOK 5.8 billion) and an operating profit (EBITDA) of NOK 1.4 billion, including one-off effects, up from NOK 1.2 billion in 2022. The shipping company had an ordinary operating profit (EBIT) of NOK 819 million in 2023, up from NOK 598 million in 2022.
Sustainable shipping fuels could reach cost parity with fossil fuels as early as 2035 with the help of decisive emissions policy such as carbon taxes and emissions limits, according to a new report launched by technology group Wärtsilä. The report, titled ‘Sustainable fuels for shipping by 2050 – the 3 key elements of success’, reveals that the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) and FuelEU Maritime Initiative (FEUM) will see the cost of using fossil fuels more than double by 2030. By 2035, they will close the price gap between fossil fuels and sustainable fuels for the very first time.

FerryWasaline, Liquid Wind and Umeå Energy announced the signing of a Letter of Intent for the sale and purchase of eMethanol from the eFuel facility in Umeå, Sweden.
FerryFinnlines has welcomed two newly built ships in the Superstar class to its fleet, FINNSIRIUS in September 2023 and FINNCANOPUS on 16 February this year. The Superstar vessels have replaced two smaller ones, and they offer upgraded services on the route between Finland and Sweden via Åland. One month after the launch of newcomer FINNCANOPUS, Finnlines reports a nearly fourfold increase in passenger numbers.
FinanceRevenues amounted to SEK 2,366.4 million (2,918.8). The costs amounted to -2,187.6 MSEK (-3,048.2). Revenues and costs during the period are lower than the previous year, mainly as a result of items relating to Stockholms Reparationsvarv and Hansa Destinations, as well as for ships sold during the second half of 2022 and the first half of 2023.
FerryAfter a period characterized by a weakening Swedish currency, figures now show a return for Swedes to travel to Denmark. In the first quarter of the year, Stena Line can report an increase of 25 percent in the number of Swedish travelers on ferry crossings from Sweden to Denmark.
DFDS has chosen to extend its collaboration with Nowhere Networks, adding the route Dieppe-Newhaven with two ships and entering into an agreement for port connectivity starting with seven of its approximately 40 freight ships initially. The shipping and logistics company has been a Nowhere Networks customer since 2019.

FerryThe final piece in a jigsaw that has taken over six years to complete and cost GBP 250 million is finally in place, with the entering into service on 19 March of P&O Ferries second new giant double-ender ro-pax ferry P&O LIBERTÉ. P&O LIBERTÉ undertook the 09.30 sailing from Calais to Dover on 19 March, joining sistership P&O PIONEER, which entered service in June last year.

FerryISLE OF ISLAY, the first of two vessels to serve Islay and Jura, was launched at the Cemre shipyard in Yalova, Turkey. The vessel, which is one of four ferries being built at the yard for Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (CMAL), is scheduled for delivery in October 2024.
FerryAustal Vietnam has been awarded a contract to design and construct a 71-metre passenger-cargo vessel for The Degage Group of French Polynesia. The new steel monohull ferry design includes an aluminium superstructure accommodating up to 140 seated passengers and 17 crew, and features a main cargo deck area of 494 sqm; capable of transporting a combination of 10’ and 20’ containers, palletised cargo and vehicles.
CruiseStorylines has renewed a shipbuilding contract with Brodosplit shipyard to construct a private residence ship. The LNG-vessel, named NARRATIVE, will be 233 metres long and be able to accommodate 531 private residences.

The Port of Trelleborg, the Port of Lübeck and the German ferry company TT-Line want to build a green shipping corridor between Lübeck-Travemünde, Germany, and Trelleborg, Sweden, which should be free of fossil fuels by 2040 at the latest. To this end, the four parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 13 March.2024 at this year’s Port of Lübeck Meeting in the Lübeck Music and Congress Hall.
FerryNordic Ferry Infrastructure will not go further in bidding for the Gotland ferry services. The CEO of Molslinjen, Kristian Durhuus, revealed this to Helagotland, citing a too low profit cap to justify the massive investment needed.
